Tasmanian Salmonid Growers Association (TSGA)

The Tasmanian Salmonid Growers’ Association Ltd (TSGA) is Tasmania’s peak body representing growers. TSGA works for its members under an Industry/Government partnership to ensure sustainable operation and regulation of the industry.

Industry Partnership Agreement

TSGA also facilitates a process to guide expenditure of Research and Development (R&D) levy funds independently collected from industry by State Government agencies and leveraged via the Fisheries Research and Development Corporation (FRDC). Accordingly, the FRDC is a key TSGA partner with strategically aligned R&D priorities and objectives.

The TSGA Industry Partnership Agreement is two-tiered, which recognises the level of R&D funding the industry is generating due to its GVP and ongoing contribution to the FRDC. This two-tiered arrangement gives a portion of funding to collaborative research which has outputs that deliver needs across the industry. The second portion is divided to allow the companies to conduct their own RD&E which is relevant to them.

Tasmanian Salmonid Growers Association Research and Development Strategy

The TSGA does not currently have an active RD&E Strategic Plan however it does have a number of priority areas which shape the current investment in RD&E:

  • Sustainable expansion of the industry (this involves environmental monitoring and management, as well as research into future technologies required to operate in different areas). This are also covers understanding
  • Fish health and welfare – including vaccine developments undertaken at the Australian Aquatic Animal Health and Vaccine Centre at Mt Pleasant.
