The Peter Dundas-Smith Leadership Scholarship

An annual leader scholarship is awarded by the Fisheries Research and Development Corporation (FRDC) in recognition of its inaugural Executive Director.

Winners of the Peter Dundas-Smith Leadership Scholarship will receive $10,000 towards an activity that will improve their ability to contribute as leaders in their chosen field.

In 2007, applications for the scholarship are sought from the commercial sector.

A selection panel will choose the candidate it believes is most likely to make an outstanding contribution to the fishing industry. The recommendation will be forwarded to the FRDC Board for approval.

Applicants for the scholarship will be required to submit their applications via the FRDC’s online application “FishNet” that can be found on the FRDC website www.frdc.com.au

Applicants should provide the following information:

  • Contact details
  • The title of the application should be ‘PDS Scholarship Application’
  • Details of two referees that should be included in the industry consultation section
  • A brief background about yourself and your experiences in the recreational or indigenous sector
  • A description of how you believe the scholarship will develop your leadership skills (this should be completed in the section titled Need)
  • State the objectives that you wish to accomplish if awarded the scholarship
  • List any outputs or extension activities that you wish to undertake
  • Provide a brief description of the outcomes that can be achieved through your scholarship activities
  • Provide a brief description on the methods that you will employ during the course of the scholarship to enhance your leadership skills
  • Provide a description of the milestones to be achieved throughout the time frame of the scholarship with costings for each milestone

Certain sections of FishNet will not need to be filled out. These are Risk Analysis, Performance Indicators, Other Related Projects, Contribution by Applicant and Contribution by Other.

Applications should be completed on FishNet with one hard copy sent to the FRDC by March 29, 2007. Applications will then be forwarded to a subcommittee of the FRDC Board for consideration. This subcommittee will shortlist the applicants and interview those applicants that have been shortlisted.

The subcommittee’s recommendation will be forwarded to the FRDC Board at their meeting in April 2007 where the final decision will be made. Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application by May 2007.
