The
Atlantic Salmon Aquaculture Subprogram (ASAS) started in July 2000 to
research, promote and further develop a sustainable Atlantic salmon industry
in Australia. The objectives of the ASAS are to:
The ASAS has made excellent progress during the past year. There has been a large increase in the number and size of research projects. The CRC for Sustainable Aquaculture of Finfish (AQUAFIN CRC) is now up and running and the total funding for Atlantic salmon research and development over the next three years, through the AQUAFIN CRC and FRDC, is around $4.3 million. This represents a doubling in funding and does not include the increase in direct and in-kind research provider and industry funding.
