The winners of the second Fish and Chips Awards have been announced tonight.
Western Australia’s ‘Hooked on Middleton’ takes the National Judged Award.
The Fisheries Research and Development Corporation runs the National Fish and Chips Awards to showcase its research and development for Australian fishing and aquaculture.
Senator The Hon Richard Colbeck attended tonight’s ceremony at Parliament House in Canberra to present the awards to the winners. The event’s menu featured Australia’s seafood.
“ ‘Hooked on Middleton’ is a family business big on showcasing the area using local fish and other produce” Says one of the judges who visited the national winner. “All staff members are knowledgeable and keen to educate the public, I did not have to ask for information, they volunteered it”.

Since voting opened in August this year, customers have also had a chance to vote for their favourite fish and chips in the People’s Choice Awards category. Over 19,000 votes were received and the state and territory winners are:

“Many places scored very close, it was hard to pick a winner”
“Some of the best shops had an emphasis on training staff and young people.”
“The menu changed daily and each day it had new factsheets to complement it.”
