1. Investigate population structure of mulloway, Argyrosomus hololepidotus, to determine whether mulloway in Australian waters belong to one large inter-breeding population throughout their range or whether 2 or more separate stocks exist.

Summary

The population structure of mulloway throughout Australian waters was investigated with a view to providing a basis for management decisions for this recreationally and commercially important fishery. This study is limited by two factors:

1. rapid deterioration of tissue samples, affecting both allozymes and mtDNA,

and 2. small sample sizes from key sites and no samples available from Victoria.

1. Quantify the abundance of age 0+ Snapper in northern Spencer Gulf and Gulf St Vincent to provide relative estimates of recruitment for 2024, 2025, and 2026. Examine the otoliths of these fish to improve the understanding of early life history processes.
