Summary

ACWA’s Research, Development, and Extension workshop was a specialised event dedicated solely to the aquaculture industry. This workshop identified and evaluated both new and existing research and development (R&D) ideas, prioritised projects, and explore potential funding opportunities. This was a technical workshop that was not aimed at the general public or investors.
The agenda for the day started with an overview of the state government’s aquaculture activities and R&D priorities, followed by presentations from local universities discussing past and current R&D projects. Industry members will had the opportunity to showcase their R&D developments.
After these presentations, there was a hands-on, facilitated consultative activity where participants brainstormed their industry sectors’ R&D needs. This session was designed to help identify sector-specific priorities, as well as cross-sector priorities and potential funding connections.
To conclude the workshop, there were presentations from the Fisheries Research and Development Corporation and the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development,
addressing funding opportunities and the role of economic development in the industry.
