Reducing waste while saving money?
You know it makes sense.

Join FRDC and the Regional Circularity Co-operative Limited in Brisbane from 26-28 February to learn how circular economy practices can transform your business and bottom-line.

The workshop is part of a three-year national program designed to help fishing and aquaculture sectors transition toward a more circular economy using practical and innovative solutions.

Who can attend?

Commercial fishers of wild catch and aquaculture and their supply chains, recreational fishers, Indigenous community representatives, coastal rangers – anyone with an interest in helping fishing activities become more sustainable.

Why Attend?

The workshop will focus on four key areas:

  • Cost Savings – Walk away knowing how to reduce waste and extend equipment life to improve your bottom line.

  • Expert Insights – Get world-class information from industry leaders and discover circular strategies that work.

  • Skill Development – Get started with tools to create your business's circular economy roadmap.

  • Networking Opportunities – Rub elbows and connect from other businesses and experts in the region through presentations and site tours.

What is 'Circular Economy'?

According to the Australian Circular Economy Framework, Circular Economy (CE) is an economic model that promotes sustainable and efficient use of resources as a way to support environmental, economic and social outcomes. It shifts away from the current linear ‘take, make, dispose’ consumption approach to one that maintains a circular flow of materials by recovering, retaining or adding to their value. The term “Circular Economy” is also applied to activities that promote the principles that are part of the economic model. These are: Designing out waste and pollution; keeping products and materials in use at their highest value for as long as possible and; Conserving natural resources and regenerate nature.

A Proven Success

Building on the success of workshops held in 2024, attendees couldn’t stop talking about the event as a valuable collaboration and learning opportunity.

“Attendees were keen on finding solutions for their own business and a lot of them felt that the workshop was a really good collaboration opportunity, along with showcasing what’s possible in the circular economy space.” - FRDC NSW Extension Officer Kris Cooling

What will be covered?

The workshop will focus on sharing knowledge on participants waste issues, potential opportunities to reduce, re-design, recycle and add value to their business outputs. This shared knowledge will be used as case studies to provide awareness and training about Circular Economy, the importance of it to sustainability and carbon emissions, and how it can contribute as a source of income and value for business. Discussion and presentations will include:

  • Redesign & Procurement – Crafting products that are built to last, renewable, and single source.

  • Eliminating Pollution – Reducing emissions and waste in operations.

  • Regenerating Nature – Supporting biodiversity and boosting sustainability.

  • Extending Product Lifespan – Unlock new value with reuse, repair and refurbishment.

  • Product as a Service – Adopting leasing/subscription models to extend product life and create long term business value.
