The Australian Council of Prawn Fisheries Ltd (ACPF) has been operating since before 2008. Membership is made up from local industry bodies and companies that deal with wild prawns or the prawn industry.

The ACPF has oversight of approximately 50% of the levy and matching dollars from Australia’s wild harvest prawn fisheries. ACPF has a clear R&D Strategy to guide investment over the period to 2020 under 5 strategies:

  • Consistent and stable gains in prawn prices
  • Real increases in harvest and prawn supply chain efficiency
  • Real increases in consumer awareness of Australian wild catch prawns
  • Secure fishery access based on minimal impact on the marine environment and continual improvement in resource sustainability.
  • Respected and professional leadership supported by appropriate organisational resources.

Industry Partnership Agreement

The FRDC is a key partner for planning and investment in the research, development extension needed to achieve its vision. ACPF works closely with the FRDC and research providers to focus resources into the RD&E needed to address current priority investment areas. RD&E investment planning and project realisation is undertaken through a collaborative process between ACPF members and research providers, with priorities developed and agreed at Annual General Meetings (AGM) and half yearly conferences.

Research Priorities

Research, Development and Extension Plan

ACPF has developed a Research, Development and Extension (RD&E) Plan that provides a framework to identify and invest in key strategic research needs of ACPF stakeholders. See the plan.

Call for Applications

The FRDC invests through a flexible approach. Part of this approach allows the Research Advisory Committees (RACs), Industry Partnership Agreements (IPAs) and Subprograms to call for applications based on their priorities up to three times per year in November, April and August – see whether this IPA has put forward any priorities in the current call for applications.
